LORI BARBERO'S BON VOYAGE PARTY

Anyone who doesn't know who Lori Barbero is, and what she has meant to the Twin Cities' music scene for the past 30 years is living under a rock. Her contribution runs miles deeper than just her involvement in the seminal 90's band Babes In Toyland. She spent decades nurturing local talent, as well as putting these two burgs on the map nationwide. The list of bands she's put up and fed when they most needed it should land her a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alone! I'll spare you the tales of her being front and center at the first shows of thousands of local bands, and all the rest of the praise she deserves and get straight to the bad news.

Lori has decided to move to Austin, TX!! Well that just sucks!! But hey, if anyone deserves a warm winter here or there, it's Lori. We want to make sure her send off is one she won't forget anytime soon, and hell maybe we can get her to think twice...

TOOL'S ADAM JONES JOINS KING BUZZO IN BARTENDING DUTIES

A while back, we made the announcement that Melvins singer King Buzzo would be guest bartending at Grumpy's Roseville and Downtown locations. Well, now he's got help. Melvin's collaborator and Tool guitarist Adam Jones (video director, Rolling Stone's #75 top guitarist, and Ronnie Dobbs supporter) will also be slinging drinks for you. So if you prefer your rock celebrities subservient, your time is coming.

Grumpy's is about making your world better. As proof, we offer the following new tasty additions to our giant menu:

They may be the best you've had. A secret family recipe (seriously).

We've figured it out. Certainly not the first, but who really cares. It's good food for the not so faint of heart.

Whole buncha Italian meat on Ciabatta bread. Dang.

Done Grumpy's Style (Grumpy's Style=Delicious)

Yep. Minneapolis will now be known for it's BBQ.

See Above.

If you've had our tots, you probably know that Grumpy's doesn't do anything half-assed. These wraps are no exception! Try the Santa Fe Chicken, Chicken BLT, or the
Chicken Ceasar. Each is roughly the size of yer head. Served with Cold Veggies.

Lone Star Tall Boys Are Here!

Fueled by my many trips to Texas of late, Grumpy's has brought Lone Star Tall Boys to the Twin Cities for the first time. A fine addition to our ridiculous Tall Boy line up which includes PBR, Miller Lite, Budweiser, Old Style, and everyone's fave, Special Export.

It's time again. Saturday, Aug 2nd, The Melvins are back at Grumpy's for their annual ho-down. This time they're bringing Big Business with to fill out the bill. It's a late start so there's time for Twins fans to clear out of the neighborhood (about 10:30 p.m.). There might be a special release for the show, it will be a CD if it happens in time. We only have a 200 person capacity, so make yer move soon as Melvins shows always sell out ya know. These shows are pretty highly regarded as the vibe is pretty intimate, and about as close as it gets to seeing the band in a similar setting to seeing 'em 15 years ago.

You can buy tickets online here!
http://grumpys.indietickets.com

or pick 'em up at the Downtown Grumpy's.
They're $16 apiece.

Monday 7/28/08 10pm: As a memorial to his lost friend "JC" Grant Hart & co. have released a way limited HUSKER DU CD E.P. on Reflex records containing 3 live songs circa 82-83. So we're throwing a shindig i.e. record release party hosted by Grant. Come on down, as Rick Fuller has thrown together some choice tibits of archival Husker Du footage that we'll be screening as well. Obviously there'll be some of the E.P.'s there for sale, as well as a small number of the limited run fliers for the event designed and numbered by Mr. Hart himself. 10pm at Grumpy's City Club.

In case you didn't know, All 3 locations have amazing patio's, and if you needed more of an excuse to check 'em out they're now sporting some amazing stencil art murals by John Grider. You've seen his stuff around town, hell you might have even seen it in Paris, London, NYC etc. etc. We talked him into showing some hometown pride in laying down the vintage art from Grain Belt cans (when they we're still brewed in N.E.). The fact that John's a N.E. kid, meant the arm twisting wasn't too hard. Okay since Roseville is on the other side of the river, we also gave a nod to St. Paul's old school hometown brew Schmidt. So now you can have your drink, some tater Tots, and get your art fix too. Try that at the Walker!

We're sad to announce that RISK YOUR MEAT is going on hiatus. So no more regularly scheduled Sat. shows. What we'll be doing instead is having RISK YOUR MEAT as a special event. Upcoming dates for it will be posted here. Also Rich and Faith are working on some other ideas. Can't spill the beans yet but they promise to be doosies. So make sure to check back here down the road.
A huge thanks to Atmosphere & the whole Rhymesayers Crew, for bringing themselves and a couple hundred friends over to the bar after their show at the Humphrey Dome. Paddy (bartender supreme/punk agitator) said he got his ass handed to him "in a good way".

Grumpy's Staraoke Voted Best Karaoke in the Twin Cities! Again.

Show us one person who claims to not secretly wish to be a country, rock, or rap star, and we'll show you a liar. Music celebrity will never happen for most of us, but that doesn't mean we can't dream. If you're ready to show a little of your exhibitionist side, Staraoke Karaoke may offer the best opportunity to publicly humiliate yourself. Hosted by the often-beehived Arzu Gocken, Staraoke's show probably has the fattest playlist in town, and the crowd is usually enthusiastic and unashamed. Some singers can really sing (and are probably in a local band); others can't carry a tune to save their lives, but can sell a song with attitude (which is 90 percent of what karaoke is about). So knock back a Surly, snack on some bar treats (try the weirdly yummy fried mac 'n' cheese bites), and pick the song you know you can rock (be sure to practice in the car or in front of the mirror first).

Every Monday Night - At all Grumpy's locations! Buy a tap Summit and keep this swank hi end design beer glass for free! The special only runs from 6-9pm on Monday nights, and while supplies last. Otherwise if you want one of these Objects D'Art, you'll have to pony up $2 any other time. The reverse of the glass has the Summit logo on it as well.

While we're talking about swag, check out the latest Grumpy's Zippo design now available at all locations as well. You can order 'em online here. This is a limited edition of 50, so get a move on before it's too late!

You want something really different to do when hanging out in the bar? Try this out, SLOT CAR RACING! Vintage Aurora slot car racing hosted by those speed demons from Eastside Electric Slotcar Club. Every Tuesday at 6pm in the City Club (racing season ends in May). You buy the beer, we'll provide the track and cars.
